Manual World Seeds and World Resets
Manual World Seeds and World Resets
When launching a new multiplayer adventure, you may want to generate terrain with a specific seed from Minecraft forums or seed generation tools.
Important Concept: Changing
level-seedinserver.propertieswill only impact newly generated chunks. Existing chunks already saved to disk will remain untouched. To apply a new seed across your entire world from spawn, you must reset or rename your world folder.
Setting a Custom World Seed
Step 1: Stop Your Server
In the dashboard console, click Stop and wait until the status shows offline. Never alter configuration files while the server process is actively writing chunk data.Step 2: Edit server.properties
- Navigate to Files in your dashboard.
- Click on
server.propertiesto open the file editor. - Locate the setting:
level-seed=
- Enter your custom seed (numeric or text string):
level-seed=-74289374982374
- Click Save Content.
Step 3: Delete or Rename Existing World Folders
In the File Manager, locate your world directories:world(Overworld)world_nether(Nether dimension)world_the_end(End dimension)
Select these folders and click Delete (or rename to world_backup if you wish to archive past structures).
Step 4: Boot Your Server
Return to the Console and click Start. The server will notice the absence of world files and generate brand-new terrain using your designated seed value.Uploading a Singleplayer World
If you have already built a world in singleplayer and want to transfer it to FreeMcHosting:
- Press Windows + R, type
%appdata%\.minecraft\saves, and find your world directory. - Compress the folder into a
.ziparchive. - In the FreeMcHosting File Manager, delete or rename the current
worldfolder. - Upload your zip file and use the Unarchive option to extract it. Ensure the folder is named
world(or updatelevel-nameinserver.propertiesto match your extracted folder name). - Start your server.
