4GB RAM Server Performance Optimization
4GB RAM Server Performance Optimization
FreeMcHosting provides 4 GB RAM and fast NVMe storage on modern AMD Ryzen and Intel hardware. By applying proper configuration tuning, you can host up to 20 concurrent players with a consistent 20 TPS tick rate.
1. Select High-Performance Server Software
Vanilla Minecraft is not optimised for multiplayer hosting and retains redundant synchronous tasks.
- Paper / Purpur: Features asynchronous chunk processing, improved entity pathfinding, and fixes for vanilla memory leaks.
- Fabric + Optimization Mods: If hosting a modded server, run Fabric with FerriteCore, Lithium, and Krypton installed.
2. Pre-Generate World Chunks (Chunky Plugin)
The single largest cause of server stuttering and tick lag is terrain generation that occurs while players explore new chunks at high speed (running, horses, or Elytra).
Pre-generation with Chunky:
- Install the Chunky plugin to your
/plugins/directory. - In the console, set your world radius:
chunky world world
chunky shape circle
chunky radius 3000
- Begin the pre-generation task when no players are active:
chunky start
- Once completed, exploring terrain within the pre-generated radius will be instantaneous and consume minimal CPU.
3. Tune Distance Settings
In server.properties:
view-distance=6simulation-distance=4
In config/paper-world-defaults.yml:
- Set
despawn-rangessoft limit to28and hard limit to96.
These parameters lower the active loaded entity and block tick count by over 50% without diminishing the visual experience.
4. Install Performance Profiling (Spark)
If your server experiences tick lag, install the spark plugin. Run:
spark sampler
spark sampler --stop. It generates a clean interactive performance graph identifying the exact plugin or entity causing TPS degradation.
