LuckPerms Setup and Web Editor

LuckPerms Setup and Web Editor

LuckPerms is the industry-standard permissions plugin for Minecraft. It offers high performance, extensive compatibility, and a powerful browser-based web editor that eliminates the need to configure complex YAML files or memorise lengthy in-game commands.

Installation Process

1. Download LuckPerms

Download the latest LuckPerms-Bukkit.jar (or Fabric/Forge edition if running a modded server) from the official LuckPerms Download Portal.

2. Upload to /plugins/

Place the .jar file inside your server's plugins directory and restart your server.

3. Open the Web Editor

In the server dashboard console (or in-game if you have OP permissions), execute:

lp editor

The console will return a secure one-time URL: https://luckperms.net/editor/<session-code>

Click or copy this link into your web browser.

Configuring Roles and Permissions

Within the LuckPerms Web Editor:

  1. Create Groups (Ranks):
Under the Groups panel, create your hierarchy (e.g., default, vip, moderator, admin).
  1. Assign Permissions:
Select a group and enter permission nodes (such as essentials.spawn, essentials.home, or worldedit.*).
  1. Configure Group Inheritance:
Set child groups to inherit from parent groups so higher ranks automatically retain basic player capabilities.
  1. Set Prefixes and Suffixes:
Add chat prefixes using meta nodes:
  • Key: prefix
  • Value: 100 &c[Admin] (where 100 is the weight)

Applying Saved Changes

  1. In the upper-right corner of the LuckPerms web editor, click Save.
  2. A modal will display a confirmation command:
/lp applyedits <unique-code>
  1. Copy and run this command in your server console.
  2. Your permission tree updates immediately without requiring a server reboot.
