Simple Voice Chat (Proximity Voice) Setup
Simple Voice Chat (Proximity Voice) Setup
Simple Voice Chat (Plasmo / SVC) provides realistic proximity-based voice communication in Minecraft. Players can hear each other's voices in 3D positional audio based on where they stand in the game world.
1. How Simple Voice Chat Works
Simple Voice Chat requires two components:
- Server-Side Component: A Paper / Purpur plugin or Fabric / Forge mod running on your FreeMcHosting server instance.
- Client-Side Component: Each player must have the Simple Voice Chat mod installed in their client (via Fabric, Forge, or CurseForge/Modrinth launchers).
2. Server Installation Steps
Step 1: Install the Plugin or Mod
- Paper / Purpur: Download
voicechat-bukkit-.jarfrom Modrinth or Spigot, or use the Dashboard GUI Plugin Installer. Place the file into/plugins/. - Fabric: Download
voicechat-fabric-.jarand place it into/mods/(ensure Fabric API is also installed). - Forge / NeoForge: Download
voicechat-forge-.jarand place it into/mods/.
Step 2: Start and Stop the Server
Boot the server once so Simple Voice Chat generates its initial configuration directory, then stop the server.Step 3: Configure Network Port Binding
Openplugins/voicechat/voicechat-server.properties (or config/voicechat/voicechat-server.properties for Fabric/Forge) in the Web File Manager:
# Port must match your server's assigned voice/network port
port=25582
# Must be set to 0.0.0.0 to listen on all interfaces
bind_address=0.0.0.0
# Optional settings
max_voice_distance=48.0
voice_chat_distance=48.0
crouch_distance_multiplier=1.1
whisper_distance_multiplier=0.5
codec=VOIP
mtu_size=1024
keepalive=1000
enable_groups=true
Important: On FreeMcHosting nodes, the voice chat UDP port should be bound to your assigned server port. If your server IP is
45.13.237.208:25582, configureport=25582invoicechat-server.properties.
3. Client Installation for Players
Players joining your server must:
- Install the matching Minecraft version of Fabric or Forge.
- Place the matching
voicechat-fabric-.jarinto their local.minecraft/modsfolder. - Launch Minecraft, join the server, and press the V key on their keyboard to open the in-game Voice Chat Settings menu.
- Select their preferred microphone, adjust volume levels, and test voice activation or push-to-talk.
4. Troubleshooting Voice Chat Connection
- Voice Icon Shows Red Cross: The client cannot connect to the server's UDP voice port. Verify that
portinvoicechat-server.propertiesmatches your actual server port, and thatbind_address=0.0.0.0. - Microphone Not Detected: Ensure the client has granted microphone access permissions in their operating system settings.
