Server Icon (server-icon.png) Guide

A custom server icon helps your community world stand out in the Minecraft multiplayer server list. Minecraft enforces strict technical specifications for server icons.

Step-by-Step Installation

1. Prepare and Resize Your Image

Using any photo editing tool (like Photoshop, GIMP, or Photopea), scale or crop your branding image to exactly 64 pixels wide by 64 pixels tall.

2. Export as PNG

Export the file as a 32-bit or 24-bit PNG with transparency support enabled.

3. Rename File

Ensure the file is saved with the name:
server-icon.png

4. Upload to Root Directory

  1. Open your FreeMcHosting dashboard and navigate to Files.
  2. Stay in the base root directory (the same directory containing server.properties and the world folder).
  3. Upload server-icon.png.

5. Restart Your Server

Restart the server from the Console tab.

6. Refresh Minecraft Client

In your Minecraft multiplayer menu, press Refresh (or hit F5 / Shift + F3) to clear the client cache and display your new icon.

Troubleshooting Icon Issues

  • Icon Not Showing: Double check the image dimensions. Right-click your image on your computer, view properties/details, and confirm natural dimensions are 64x64.
  • Client Cache: Minecraft clients cache server list icons locally. Have a friend check or delete servers.dat / temporary server list caches if needed.
  • File Placement: Ensure server-icon.png is not inside the plugins or world folders.
